LAHORE, Sept 22:
The Punjab Industrial Estate (PIE) has completed an initial work to install first-ever 50MW coal power generation plant at the Sundar Industrial Estate (SIE) in Lahore while the process to get the license from Nepra is underway.
“The PIE’s board of directors has established a power committee which will look after coal and other power-related projects of industrial estates in Punjab,” PIE chairman S.M Tanveer said in a briefing to the Lahore Economic Journalist Association (LEJA) here on Thursday. PIE chief executive officer Maj-Gen Javed Iqbal (retired) was also present.
Mr Tanveer said the extension work of 132KVA grid station of PIE was also underway to add an additional 34MW to ensure uninterrupted power supply to SIE industries.
The PIE management started industrial estate development work in Bhalwal and Rahim Yar Khan with its own resources, he said, adding that the planning and development of 10 other industrial estates in the province was also underway.
These industrial estates would be established in Kasur Tannery Park, Gujrat, Vehari, Bahawalpur, D.G Khan, Wazirabad Cutlery Cluster, Jhang, Okara, Sahiwal and Rawalpindi, he said.
Mr Tanveer said the PIE was working under the vision of the Punjab chief minister to make Punjab an industrial hub in the country with all modern facilities.
He said Halal Park would be established in Rahim Yar Khan and Multan industrial estates to promote Halal products of Pakistan and get its share from the world Halal food market.
He said the Punjab Industrial Estate Development and Management Company (PIEDMC) had developed the public private partnership concept successful by completing its projects without the support of any government institution. About financial issues of the company, Mr Tanveer said the PIE BoD had approved accounts from 2005 to 2008 while internal and external auditors having international repute were appointed for self-accountability of the PIEDMC.
He said the SIE was the state-of-the-art industrial estate in Pakistan where all utilities and offices of departments concerned, including SNGPL, EOBI and Social Security, were established.
The PIE chairman said that under the auspicious of PIEDMC, boards of management were constituted in Sundar, Quaid-i-Azam, and Multan industrial estates to empower them to run their affairs independently.
He said a master plan of the Bhalwal Industrial Estate had been completed and litigation issues in the Multan Industrial Estate were almost solved to carry out work on its Phase-II.
“PIEDMC is also under process of developing Rahim Yar Khan, Bhalwal, Multan Phase-II and Vehari industrial estates on 1,590 acres of available land which will help create 192,000 new jobs”, he said
